Salmen High School Uniform Policy Guidelines
The Salmen High School Uniform Committee instituted the following policy effective for the 2007-08 school year. The committee, as required by St. Tammany Parish School Board policy, was made up of two teachers, two students, two parents, and two administrators.
All uniforms worn at Salmen High must be in compliance with St. Tammany School Board Discipline Policy Handbook and the following:
TOPS:
Uniform shirts can have long or short sleeves and may only be worn without a logo or with the official Salmen High School logo/crest.
Solid black, white, or gray three-button polo type style. Popular brands of shirts which are similar to polos are unacceptable. This includes shirts which do not have the three buttons or are shorter and tighter in fit. If it is in question, inquire with an administrator before purchasing.
A plain black, white, or gray long sleeved sweatshirt may be worn over the school uniform shirt only.
T-shirts may be of any color but may not be visible in the midriff area. They must be tucked in or shorter than the uniform shirt. Tee-shirts with designs or advertisements may not be worn or visible under any uniform top.
Students may also wear plain or Salmen logo/crest zippered sweatshirt, cardigan, or jacket in black, gray, or white.
Any pullover jacket must be plain black, white or gray. Other colored jackets may be worn but must include a zipper or buttons and are required to be removed inside of classrooms.
No other logos besides the Salmen High logo of any kind are permitted. Outerwear is not included in the uniform policy; however, it must be removed inside the school building if it is not a solid black, white, or gray zippered sweatshirt. All tops with the Salmen crest are available from local vendors. Hats are not allowed in the building.
BOTTOMS:
Bottoms will consist of plain tan/khaki colored cotton twill hemmed (no frayed ends) slacks, shorts, skirts, or Capri pants.
Length of bottoms must be must be at the fingertip or below when standing erect with arms extended down the sides or not more than 5” below the knee.
Bottoms worn by students must be secured at waist level, with no undergarments revealed.
These items must be secured at the waist and fit. No over-sized pants or tight leggings are acceptable. No altering of the uniform to circumvent the approved policy can be allowed.
SHOES:
Flip flops or backless thong sandals are not permitted. House and bedtime slippers are forbidden.
HAIR:
Facial Hair-Male students are prohibited from wearing beards or goatees.
Hair-The length of hair on males may not fall below the base of a collared shirt. Afros or teased styles may not exceed 3 inches in height.
Hair must be clean and not unusually colored.
CAPS:
All caps, hats, and bandanas are banned from school campuses during regular school hours.
PIERCINGS:
Body piercing ornaments are limited to the ears.
